Make sauce in a large bowl by whisking together melted butter, hot sauce, and garlic powder. When tots are golden and crispy, remove from oven and add to bowl, tossing gently to coat. Return tots back to pan and bake for 7-9ish more minutes. You want to get them nice and crispy again.
Combine thawed hash browns, flour, salt, pepper, and eggs in a bowl. Take a piece of cheese and wrap a palmful of the mixture around it, shaping it into a tot. Squeeze out some excess moisture to make it nice and tight. Fill a large, deep skillet halfway with oil and heat over medium. When the oil is hot, drop in some tots, turning them along
Take a small handful of the potato mixture and shape it into a cylindrical tater tot. Repeat this process until all the mixture is used, placing the tater tots on a plate or tray. Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (400°F) for about 5 minutes. Lightly spray the tater tots with oil on all sides.
Instructions. Place your tater tots in the air fryer in a single layer. Turn your air fryer on to 400F and air fry for 8 minutes, shaking the basket at the halfway mark. Check to see if the tater tots are crispy enough for you. If not, lightly spray the tater tots with oil and air fry for another 2 minutes.
I recommend using a cast iron skillet so you can take it directly from the stovetop to the oven. If you don’t have an oven-safe skillet, transfer the vegetable mixture to a baking dish before adding the cheese and tater tots. To make the tater tots extra crispy, switch the oven to broil for 1-2 minutes before removing the skillet from the oven.
